2642 The Alpha Course

The Alpha Course

Over 8 million people have now attended an Alpha course, an opportunity to
explore the meaning of life, running in tens of thousands of churches of all
denominations across the world. Alpha is an opportunity for anyone to
explore the Christian faith in a relaxed setting over ten thought-provoking
weekly sessions, with a day away.

It is low-key, friendly and fun – and is supported by all the main Christian
denominations. Our next course begins on September 15th please contact our
vicar Revd Paul Mackay for further details. Why not take this opportunity to
explore the meaning of life?

Below are some of the subjects we cover in our course. At the end of the course we normally follow this up with an 'Alpha Plus evening' looking beyond the course and letting the particpants choose the subjects we cover. More news of that will follow.

Invitation Supper - Christianity: Boring, Untrue and Irrelevant?
Who is Jesus?
Why did Jesus die?
Why and how should I read the Bible?
Why and how should I pray?
What about evil?
Away Day - The Holy Spirit?
Does God heal today?
Why and how should we tell others?
How can I be sure of my faith?
What about the Church?
How can I make the most of the rest of my life?

This is the story from Leanne's point of view, someone who did the Alpha course and the Alpha plus course 2010/2011.

Alpha Course

The Alpha course was super; it gave me the opportunity to explore Christianity in a friendly and safe environment at the right pace for me.  It was relevant, interesting and I always looked forward to our next meeting.  The discussions were throught-provoking and provided me with answers to my questions, and often more questions.

Alpha plus course

The Alpha plus course enabled us to consolidate and build on the knowledge gained from the Alpha Course.  The topics discussed were flexible and allowed further consideration of more complex topics.  A range of methods were used including DVDs and group discussion, which made learning interesting and enjoyable.

"I attended the alpha and alpha+ course during 2010.  I wanted to learn more about God and the bible as I was undecided on my faith and I learned of the course through a friend.  I found the course to be informative and supportive but above all friendly.  I've met some great people and I felt I had a secure and safe environment to voice those questions which you feel you sometimes cannot ask".

George.

Next Alpha Course

The next Alpha course will take place in September dates to be announced.

Questions we will ask will include, for example, 'Who is Jesus?.  'Why and how should I read the Bible?' and 'Does God heal today?.'
