The Alpha Course

Over 8 million people have now attended an Alpha course, an opportunity to
explore the meaning of life, running in tens of thousands of churches of all
denominations across the world. Alpha is an opportunity for anyone to
explore the Christian faith in a relaxed setting over ten thought-provoking
weekly sessions, with a day away.

It is low-key, friendly and fun – and is supported by all the main Christian
denominations. Our next course begins in April please contact our
vicar Revd Paul Mackay for further details. Why not take this opportunity to
explore the meaning of life?

Our current course is nearing its completion, below are some of the subjects we covered. From September we will be starting an 'Alpha Plus evening' looking beyond the course and letting the particpants choose the subjects we cover. More news of that will follow.

Invitation Supper - Christianity: Boring, Untrue and Irrelevant?
Who is Jesus?
Why did Jesus die?
Why and how should I read the Bible?
Why and how should I pray?
What about evil?
Away Day - The Holy Spirit?
Does God heal today?
Why and how should we tell others?
How can I be sure of my faith?
What about the Church?
How can I make the most of the rest of my life?

This is the story from Sue's point of view, someone who did the course last time.

'At the end of the Alpha meetings I came away hungry for more information
and looked forward to the next session. I enjoyed all the Alpha sessions.
The away day was very special and we were blessed with beautiful
surroundings and lovely hot weather (a little bit of heaven). The food was
excellent (a real treat not having to cook), and enjoyable company at all
the meals.'

And here is what Teresa says:
'Alpha was great. Many of the topics covered were things that I had often wondered about. It was really interesting and thought provoking. I really enjoyed Alpha and at the end of each evening was looking forward to the next one. The environment was friendly and everyone quickly felt comfortable enough to ask questions and share their thoughts. '

Simon Bransby says:

“I found it an excellent opportunity for a whole number of reasons, to explore my faith and beliefs, meet new people and listen and exchange ideas on issues. All in all a great experience which I would commend to anyone”'

David Knight says:

"The best thing about Alpha was being able to explore the issues of personal faith within an atmosphere that encouraged open discussion. I left with a far richer understanding of myself and THE BIG ISSUES."

From our 2008 Course

Wynn & Sandra Knight say:

Wynn and Sandra would like to say how very much we enjoyed the ALPHA course.  We found it very informative and interesting but at the same time very relaxed and easy going.
