Who's Who at St Catherine's

Rev Paul Mackay, Vicar

My training for full time ministry in the Church of England took place and began in 1998 at Trinity College, Bristol. From there God called me to serve as Curate in a parish back in the area I was born and raised, Dagenham, Essex. I left Dagenham and moved to here in 2003 with my wife Sue and son Jamie, followed closely by our Burmese cat Lizzie (now sadly no longer with us) and our Bichon Frise (small white fluffy dog) Barnie.

Sue and I became Christians in 1990 when we went back to the church we had been married at a few years previously, to enquire about having Jamie baptised or 'christened'. God's call on our lives since then and now is a great blessing, we love being in Mile Cross and Norwich. The choice of city, countryside and walks along the beach suit us ideally, but most importantly the chance to work and walk alongside some great people. In late 2009 we decided to go 'green' and sold our ageing car. We now hire a car to visit family and friends occasionally but otherwise use pedal power or public transport to get around.

I guess to describe us briefly, would be this:

Paul - Gadget man, frequent cyclist

Sue - Great cook and organiser

Jamie - Now a young man, thankfully employed at the Elveden Estate and of whom we are extremely proud!

Barnie - Extremely cute, cuddly and adorable and as ever rules the roost and makes sure we behave ourselves!

Joyce Lincoln, PCC Secretary

I was born at North Walsham and moved to Norwich when I married Ivan in 1972.  We have two daughters, one grandson and a second grandchild due early in 2009.

This is the second time I have been PCC Secretary during the 30+ years we have been members of St Catherine’s.  We first came along with one young daughter and another baby expected, now we are grandparents!   We valued the teaching for children, something we consider even more important today.

I have taught in the teaching groups, helped with Mums and Toddlers when it started (now Totstop) Friday Club and Xplorers events.

Not being so agile and now I have retired, I am pleased to use my talents in other ways like serving on the PCC and especially as Secretary.

I

I grew up near Windsor in Berkshire and moved to Norwich when I married in 1982.

I have 4 children – David 30, Tim 26, who married Julie in 2007, Robin 21, and Elisabeth 18, and have two grandsons born in 2009 and 2011.

I am editor of the church magazine "Outreach", and am actively involved with Tot Stop, as well as preparing Sunday (and other!) services on the computer, and being part of the Worship Group, so I am kept quite busy!

I love animals, especially dogs and guinea-pigs, and have been known to take in waifs and strays occasionally.

My hobbies include camping, reading, needlework, various crafts, net surfing, family history research and training a very lively Labrador.

Rev Gill Bridges

Having recently retired from full time ministry after 20 happy years, I am now equally happily making my church home at St Catherine’s. I am finding out how true it is when people say ‘I don’t know how I had time to go to work!'I suspect that the truth is, everything takes longer to do! I was brought up in Lincolnshire: my parents were farmers, and I always loved church and knew God, thanks to them. The first part of my life with my husband Sid; was spent in various places with the RAF in this country and abroad. We have two daughters and 3 grandchildren. We settled down here in Norwich 32 years ago, so we are certainly residents if not natives! I have been ordained for over 20 years, working in Hellesdon, Earlham, Lakenham and for the last 9 years Sprowston. I feel hugely privileged to be part of a church family, and to know people at the happiest and saddest points in their lives. I also have enjoyed being in contact with schools and young people. Before I was ordained I worked in training at Sainsbury’s, and as a counsellor with a National charity. I look forward very much to getting to know this community better, and in my own time, to reading, gardening, exploring with this marvellous free bus pass and enjoying my great passion, modern Line Dancing.
